A note- this review covers the nearly identical Japanese Takara reissue of Smokescreen
When I was a kid, Transformers were the hottest thing around. So when my dad decided, for whatever reason, to buy me this figure waaay back in 1985 I was ecstatic. I thrashed the poor guy so much that by the time I lost him a few months later, many of his parts were missing. The thing I love about these reissues is that I can now buy these toys back in perfect condition without having to pay ridiculous prices for the originals.
Smokescreen is basically a remold of Silverstreak/Prowl, with front and rear spoilers and a different roof. In fact, Smokescreen is based on an actual race car from the early 1980s. Transformation is identical to Silverstreak/Prowl, and the resulting robot is probably the best looking of the 3 300ZX based Autobots due to the racing theme of the car. I have to say from experience that this figure is very fragile and unfortunately should not be handled by someone who's not going to treat it as a collectible. Pay special attention to the doors and windows, as they're the most likely to break off.

Autobot Warrior Smokescreen
For those of you who don't know about this figure, this is a commemorative re-issue of a toy that was released 20 years ago in 1984, as part of a popular new toyline known as The Transformers. This toy is a scale model of a Datsun Fairlady Z sportscar, with the ability to shift and twist into the form of a toy robot, complete with "space-age" weaponry. The mold for this toy was used in the manufacturing of two other transformers, with slight mold alterations. Bluestreak (Silverstreak), and Prowl. This toy, like any other transformer in my opinion, is very fun. It has the appeal of everything a little boy would want, It is a toy car, as well as a toy soldier. Plus with growing up around these, and other toys (nintendo, etc.) it has helped me in a number of ways. It has helped to develop hand-eye coordination, concentration, patience(because sometimes you can't figure the toy out), and even dexterity. I would even put Transformers up within the ranks with the Rubik's cube.
This re-issue, like the original, incorporates the "lost art" of die-cast metal for some parts. This helps with toy durability, as well as a more realistic feel. Because of certain Toy safety ratings, from the early '90's, this toy has been altered. The two launchers on Smokescreens shoulders have had the springs removed to hinder all launching of projectiles. You may notice that on some other Transformer re-issues, that missiles may have been drastically lengthened from that of the original toy, this has been done so as to maintain the launching feature, without sacrificing the safety of the toy. Projectiles must now be 2 inches or longer if they are to launch.
Overall, this is an accurate recreation of one of the classic Transformers toys, and is worth every penny. This toy also utilizes stickers for detail, so I wouldn't suggest any bathtime playing. I hope this review has helped in some degree, and I hope that you will decide to purchase this figure, as it is an example of one the greatest toy lines ever, The Transformers.
